Motherhood First 30 Days Mom HelloNance

My Second Month of Motherhood

For fleeting memories, anxious Mothers-to-be and for all the super humans we called Moms.

Click for Month 1 HERE.

Day 1: Baby is one month old today. Can’t believe a month already went by. We survived. Baby survived.

Day 2: Life’s important choices: #2 vs tending to a crying baby

Day 3: It is midnight and baby just ripped a big one: live explosion up the back and onto the change pad and her shirt. Bath time is not going to be fun.

Day 4: Baby’s thighs looks like Church’s Chickens. All I want to do is lunch on them. On a serious note, I hope she has Dad’s metabolism. I don’t want her to be fat.

Sleep strategy #689: Keep Mom’s worn shirt (preferably with breastmilk on it) near baby’s bed.

Day 5: Slowly enjoying breastfeeding and the joys this mother daughter time it brings. It melts my heart when her tiny hands grabs my finger tight.

Day 6: the Nuna Leaf came in the mail today and baby loves sitting in the chair! YES! Free time!

Day 7: Grandma babysat today while we went out on a date. Apparently we fail as parents. Grandma and friend inspected baby and she has crumbmies (crumbs) in her rollsies (rolls). How about you bathe my squirming, wet and crying baby?!

Day 8: Ever think of sucking snot out of a baby? Neither have I. But for obvious reasons if we don’t, she can’t breathe and if she can’t breathe… well, that’s not good.

Day 9: Dad took baby out for the first time to the park while I went the salon for a haircut (first cut in 8 months). She was super curious at everything!

Day 10: It’s a barter system. I get to go out to media events and the hubby wants to go play ball. Believe me, I’m keeping tabs on who gets out more! Every wo/man for themselves.

Day 11: The average family has 2 1/2 kids. I have one and a half. I never understood until now… It’s because of husbands.

Day 12: My baby slept six hours straight last night. It was a miracle.

Side note #79: Once baby reaches above 10 lbs, they may sleep through the night.

Day 13: FML !! Baby shat the sofa.

Day 14: Being a parent means you can’t even focus on a show with a simple plot (without having to rewind 50x).

Day 15: woke up with anxiety that baby hasn’t cried for a diaper change or milk all night. Checked if she was breathing. But she was simply sleeping – 6 hours straight again. Hope she sleeps like this every night.

Sleep strategy #677: Apparently I’m an Asshole Mom because I’m proud that my Baby sleeps through the night!

Day 16: I love the idea of white clothes, but I’m a mom. #motherhood #messy

Day 17: I felt a warm spot on my pants after hearing a wet farting sound. Baby pooped all over my pants. I’m going to lay a receiving blanket underneath at all times going forward.

Day 18: wondering why people would want to come visit baby when they are sick. Let’s FaceTime instead? I need one of those apocalypse virus scanners.

Day 19: Did my feet seriously grow a half size since pregnancy? What am I going to do with my 364859386 pairs of shoes? #shopsonline

Day 20: Baby “talks” are so cute – wish there’s an app to translate it.

Day 21: One of those days the parent gets inpatient and the baby just wants to sleep 7.5 hours. Aren’t you hungry princess?

Day 22: chubby thighs or fat toesies? Let’s take a poll! They’re all so perfect I could eat her up.

Day 23: Dad’s a little jealous Baby “talks” to me and not him. Sorry dude, you gotta earn your keeps!

Day 24: I’m not big into Baby “show and tell”. Why do people expect to parade your child around?

Day 25: That proud Mom moment when you’re Baby is all chill and relaxed while your friends kid is crying and fussing. All Baby did was smile. #proudmom #relaxed

Day 26: It takes having a kid yourself to know the words to childhood nursery rhymes.

Day 27: we never appreciated the freedom to go out by ourselves until you have an infant. Instead of bringing a purse, we have to deal with the stroller/ baby carrier, diaper bag and of course the Baby. Leaving the house takes at least an hour. Feeding, changing the diaper and making sure we have everything possible for an apocalypse!

Day 28: I’m in my mid 30’s but I feel like I have weak knees and a bad back of an 80 year old. Is that why people have kids younger in their 20’s?

Day 29: Bodily fluids are gross.  A cute little baby’s is still gross. Don’t kid yourself their poop doesn’t stink – watery poop, Dijon mustard poop, paste-y poop – they all are gross. I don’t need to see a picture of your baby’s fecal matter – thanks!

Day 30: looking back the past two months and our little girl has grown so much already. From the first moment we held this skinny peanut till now, this plump little piggy has changed me so much. More patient and selfless person. Her needs comes before mine. I am enjoying the quiet and mundane hours of doing nothing – cradling and staring at her. As she grows so does my love for her.

When I feel like my 10 minute fitness commitment just isn’t going to cut it for the day, I know I need a good sweat! I am slowly getting back into the grind and it is hard AF and I’m not even going to lie […]

REN Skincare introduced a silicone free primer! There is a lot that I like about this clean skincare line and the NEW Perfect Canvas Silicone Free Skin Finishing Serum is my newest makeup addiction. There is so much though from the name to the packaging to how […]

Motherhood First 30 Days Mom HelloNance

My First 30 Days of Motherhood

For fleeting memories, anxious Mothers-to-be and for all the super humans we called Moms.

Day 1: Finally after 36 hours, for a brief moment you forget the pain when you hold your child for the very first time. It is a super weird but satisfying feeling when baby comes out like a slippery fish.

Day 2: Still checking every box off with a plethora of drugs while feeding this little beast every 1-2 hours.

Day 3: Another day in the hospital – we finally have our private room and we’ve moved onto formula (while the milk was still coming in).

Breastfeeding Strategy: This lactation massager is the first ever milk expression aid! This tool can unplug milk ducts and get your milk flowing!

Day 4:  Just like seasoning a chicken. Just tell yourself that when you are wiping a baby girl’s vagina.

Day 5: Primal. Babies are wild animals. They feed on you every 1-2 hours. Heads waling and smashing into boobs.

Side Note #114: Whoever came up with the poster slogan of “breast milk is best” must be male. Sure BM has a lot of nutrients not found in Formula, but if you need to top up with store bought go right ahead. It’s hard mentally and physically to force yourself to produce milk with a starving new born.

Day 6: It takes a village to raise a child. Parenthood friends brings food.  Childless friends brings toys. Any help offered to look after Baby for 5 minutes while I take a shower is much appreciated.

Day 7: Never leave a New Mom unsupervised. They are super hormonal and emotional. I broke down over some bad humour. And never tell a new Mom that “You’re a Mom now. You just need to wear pj’s.” And NEVER send any family member a photo of Mom without her consent.

Day 8: Putting Baby on a new sleeping routine to correct her day/night confusion. Strictly no bright lights. Change dirty diaper and feed in the dark for fear – just like the vampires in I Am Legend. She can turn on you. I don’t want to go Will Smith on her.

Side Note #298: If you’re not helping….  who asked for your advise? Everyone always has an opinion.

Day 9: Immobilized with Baby on top of me. Binge watching Netflix. I’m scared if I move the monster would wake. We bought a Boba Baby Wrap. Thank fucking God for Amazon Prime same day delivery. We ordered it at 10am and was hands free by 7:30pm.

Day 10: We feel like horrible human beings. Baby Doctor was judging us because baby lost 2 oz. “You can never over feed a baby.” Where is the instruction manual?

Day 11: It was a SIMULATED SHARK. I feel personally attacked. My poor nipples.

Day 12: Today was the first day we ate in a restaurant with the Baby. We both felt so uneasy – what if she starts crying? takes a shit or catches some germs. I want to put a mini face mask on her.

Sleep strategy #247: Hubby sleeps in the guest room on work days.

Day 13: On my own today with Baby. I feel pretty accomplished taking her to the Doctor all by myself today. Everything takes twice as long. Plan for a 2 hour window before any appointment!

Day 14: This little human is officially 2 weeks old today. She was fussy all day during those Witching hour: between 3 to 7am marked by constant and inconsolable tears with only briefest moments of reprieve and the neediness to be cuddled.

Side Note #856: Infant fussiness usually starts at 2 to 3 weeks.

Day 15: Trying to avoid eye contact with Baby (so she doesn’t demand cuddles and I can go take a nap.) #badmom #momlife #insomnia

Sleep strategy #389: Don’t get too close to Baby, she can smell you!

Day 16: Baby smiled at me.

Day 17: Being a parent means that personal time (including sleep) is extremely scarce. Short, disconnected windows if you want to pursue your hobbies.

Sleep strategy #402: When Baby sleep, you SLEEP!

Day 18: I’m slurring and can barely hold a normal adult conversation. Sleep deprivation and baby brain seriously is hurting my social skills.

Day 19: Bath time always results in stink eye and concern looks. Stop judging me baby! It was Dad that bathed you!

Day 20: FML. Fussy baby all day. Once Daddy’s home, someone’s a little angel.

Day 21: I’m hiding in the bathroom. Never thought I’d find solace inside this 100 sqft space.

Day 22: It is 4am. Put the grenade down slowly without waking her. One false move and we are all toast.

Side Note #568: Infants are born with just 25 percent of adult brain size. Compared with other mammals, human infants take the longest time to grow up, and they remain in a biologically dependent state for the longest period of time. Human infants cannot control their bowels, speak, make tools, digest large molecules, or walk. In the words of anthropologist Ashley Montague, human infants are “extero-gestators” (1), meaning they complete their gestation after birth, and someone’s got to be there to help with it.

Day 23: Velcro Baby. She’s super clingy and needs cuddles and kisses all day long. There is no such thing as giving a baby too much contact or affection – they thrive on touch, and grow more the more they get of it. When they are deprived of these sensations, their primary survival response (crying) will produce cortisol (a stress hormone) as they attempts to attract the attention of their parents.

Day 24: It’s back to that straight jacket swaddle at night. Surprisingly she slept 3.5 hours straight through the night – both times after feeding and a fresh diaper.

Day 25: Postpartum Depression (PPD) / postpartum blues can hit anyone at anytime. Even if you think you’ve got it “together”, the overwhelming sense of exhaustion, confinement of talking only to an infant, and physical demands can wear on you. Caring for an newborn is 24:7. There are no breaks. Sometimes when dad goes to work, sometime it feels like he “leaves” us – even though it is not true.

Day 26: It’s not a joke when people tell you to get much sleep as you can, do couple-ly things, and travel before children. I get it now. Only parenthood friends get it now.

Day 27: Remember how good Baby slept the night before, well… last night, I was losing my mind.

Side Note #78: Sleep duration increases among babies who experiences increased skin-to-skin care. They seemed less agitated in general while enjoying more stable heart rates and breathing patterns leading to greater overall oxygenation. They breathe more regularly, use energy more efficiently, grow faster, and experience less stress.

Day 28: Feeling guilty of eating my dinner tonight while Baby was alone in the bedroom herself. Some call it guilt; I call it sanity.Day 29: Cluster Feed. Hourly attention.Day 30: I will never look at Dijon mustard the same way again.

Influenster VOXBOX Spring Vibes Review

Influenster VOXBOX Spring Vibes Review

Spring Vibes VOXBOX Hellonance

I was sent the Influenster Spring Vibes VoxBox just before I went into labour. This box of goodies includes a variety of items including instant coffee, food, skincare and some press on nails. Truly a lifestyle “subscription” type box. The requirements for getting a VOXBOX is a bit vague. You can increase your social reach by 1. referring more friends to join Influenster, 2. complete campaigns and 3. share on social media.

Here’s a look at what’s inside the Spring Vibes VoxBox:

Nivea Q10 Firming Body Oil

This lightweight body oil contains a mixture of oils to help your skin stay moisturized and hydrated. It is non-greasy and absorbs quickly. I started using this for my stretch marks after my 100% jojoba oil was finished. My skin feels nourished, soft and silky. My only complaint is that the fragrance is a tad too strong for my preference.

Ebates Popsocket

The popsocket is a nice tool to help you get a better grip on your phone – especially for taking selfies! Although I didn’t personally use this (I hate bulk on my phone), I love using EBATES! If you haven’t already discovered EBATES, you must sign up now! Ebates is an online website that gives you CASHBACK when you shop online!! There are 1000s of stores like Amazon, Well.ca, Sephora, etc. So you you are always shop online, why not get some money back? Sign up for Ebates now because you will be making money for shopping!

imPress Press ON Manicure One Step Gel Nails

For all your Nail Inspirations. These press on nails are the quickest way to get a perfect manicure. They are easy to apply and lasts approximately 5 days. The quality of the adhesive is also very good. ImPress Press ON Manicure comes in a variety of colors and prints.

Annie’s Shells & White Cheddar Macaroni and CheeseContains Real Cheese and Milk Ingredients

Did you grow up eating KD Mac and Cheese? Consider Annie’s an upgrade. Made with 80% organic ingredients with no artificial flavours, synthetic colours or preservatives. It is also made with non-GMO/GE ingredients. And? the cheese is read aged cheddar!

NESCAFE Sweet and Creamy
I’m a morning coffee person. I like the convenience of Nescafe instant coffee sachets. It makes morning commute easy and it is flavourful. I like that it isn’t to0 sweet.

Quacker Harvest Fruit & Nut Granola Bar

These granola bars are delicious and nutritious snack. These bars combine the goodness of 100% Canadian Oats with delicious premium ingredients like dark chocolate, dried cherries and apples for a tasty snack you can feel good about.

Arm & Hammer Plus OxiClean 3-in-1 Power Packs
I was really excited to try this brand for the first time! These packs are boosted with a stain fighting power that helps reducing the stains. I tested these with the clothes of my 2 year-old child and I was very happy with the results. It helped reducing some strong stains and it also gives a nice fresh smell to the clothes!

That’s all that was included in this Influenster Spring Vibes VOXBOX. I can’t wait for their Summer box and I hope I get selected. If you are not an Influenster yet, I highly recommend you Sign Up! Who doesn’t like getting some free samples in the mail? It requires a little participation by writing reviews but it’s absolutely worth it!

Fitbit Charge HR Review | Fitness Tracker Smart Watch

My Diary

Post ID:

Fitbit Charge HR wearable fitness tracker is perfect for the average consumer. I was on the hunt for the best fitness tracker / watch that is stylish. I wanted one that tracks different exercises, sleep at night, active heart-rate resting, heart rate working out, syncs to my Iphone and has a good app. Most of all, I wasn’t looking to spend a lot of money. I didn’t want to spend $300 on something I might grow bored of quickly.

I bought my Fitbit Charge HR in size large even tho my wrist is small. The silicon band is light and adjustable with belt buckles. It was nice to give my wrist some breathing room.

To begin with, I expected a lot out of the Fitbit. I expected good app features. And I doubted whether the watch’s basic black design was stylish enough for the office. Initially, I wanted it to have a bright colorful touchscreen like this the Polar A360. Because it just looks cool.

However, a few months has passed and I haven’t been able to find a wearable fitness technology that is able to beat what the Fitbit Charge HR does (in the same price point). While the little LED display clock is basic it is easy to turn your wrist and tell time. A light tap on the screen will display your heart-rate, steps or other data. The watch is comfortable to wear working out and also when you are pounding keys on the computer.

What makes the Fitbit Charge HR fun is the plethora list of items that you can challenge yourself or stay motivated with your #fitfam friends. Do everything you can to reach your daily steps for Goal Day or engage in the Workweek Hustle and try to get the most steps between Monday and Friday.

Personally, I like to set my exercise goals to at least 3 workouts in a week. If I am able to get an extra run in that will be a bonus.

The Fitbit App itself is intuitive and easy to use. The graphics are pleasing and the new software and firmware updates significantly improved syncing and tracking. It added automatic sleep and activity session tracking making it smoother and a more automated fitness tracker. Use Exercise Mode and SmartTrack™ automatic exercise recognition to record all of your workouts. Activate Exercise Mode on your tracker for the most precise tracking during workouts and real-time stats on your wrist.

Customize your heart-rate zones to optimize your training. The band helps me push for those peak heart rate zones when needed and stay within the fat burn zones I especially want to target during those Lagree megaformer workouts.

I wished Fitbit would sync and pair with My Fitness Pal and have a better nutrition tracking repertoire. For those, who already use My Fitness Pal, it is a nuisance to re-enter the data. In the end, I just gave up using this feature in my Fitbit app.

I also wish that it had an universal mini-USB adaptor instead of it’s own proprietary USB plug. The cable itself is also too short to plug behind my Mac. And I better remember to charge it at home (since I only have the one Fitbit cable).

Fitbit Charge HR Pros

  • Long battery life over four days
  • LED display for clock and quick tap for other data
  • Automatically tracks sleep and exercise activities
  • Comfortable to wear and adjustable
  • Silent alarm: It vibrates and less abrasive then a blaring siren alarm.
  • A great motivator to get moving and stay healthy.

Fitbit Charge HR Cons

  • Proprietary USB charger. Don’t lose it. Mini USB would be so much better!
  • Limited nutrition food tracking repertoire (and does not sync with My Fitness Pal)
  • Sometimes I get too obsessed over my steps! Gotta get those steps in!
  • It’s not exactly discrete: It is not very small and others will know you are wearing a fitness tracker. This doesn’t really bother me but it doesn’t scream formal wear either.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the Fitbit Charge HR and foresee myself getting a lot of mileage out of this wireless tracking fitness watch.

Have you ever worn a fitness tracker? Which one do you like best? Share with me in the comments below.
