SkinCeuticals Review | Hydrating B5 Gel and More

SkinCeuticals Review | Hydrating B5 Gel and More

SkinCeuticals Review HelloNance.com Baby Beauty Travel Lifestyle Vancouver Blog

You probably know that I’ve been madly in love with SkinCeuticals products, if you’ve been following me on my Instagram feed. I’ve recently introduced the Hydrating B5 Gel and a few other moisturizing products into my Asian skincare routine and found it working best with my Normal-Dry skin type.

To be honest, I’m not very committed to using a single skincare line. Instead I favor using a few different products from different companies. I swamp out certain products depending on the time of day or seasons to create the best skincare routine for myself.

I’m too lazy to commit myself to a 10-step Korean skincare routine, etc. What works for one person doesn’t necessary means it works best for me. Besides, I’ve found that completely changing all products usually just inflames my skin. But I must say, I love (selectively) trying out new products.

After using the following SkinCeuticals products over a 3-4 month period, I feel my skin has not had any allergic reactions nor breakouts. Which is always a good sign!

Let’s get into each product!

SkinCeuticals Review HelloNance.com Baby Beauty Travel Lifestyle Vancouver Blog

SkinCeuticals – HYDRATING B5 GEL

This serum is oil free but extremely hydrating with hyaluronic acid. It has a watery viscosity and is not scented. This moisturizer combines vitamin B5 with hyaluronic acid which acts as the body’s natural hydrator and helps bind moisture to the skin. Two drops is plenty. It absorbs quickly but does not disappear right away. I make sure I also moisturize my neck with the extra left over products!

WHEN: I use this after my toner/first essence.

PROS:

  • Skin feels supple and smooth
  • Hydrating and enhances the benefits of a daily moisturizer
  • Non-comedogenic. Does not clog pores
  • Paraben, alcohol, dye, fragrance-free
  • Ideal for all skin types

SkinCeuticals – HYDRATING B5 MASQUE

If the hydrating B5 Gel is still not enough to get you through whatever rough/dry climate you are in than the Hydrating B5 masque just might save your face! Similar to the B5 Gel, the B5 Masque contains high concentrations of hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. Intensely moisturizing and I recommend using this 1 to 2 times weekly to help restore water balance and replenish parched skin. It feel like a cool gel when you first apply it to your skin with an initial tingle.

WHEN: I use this after my serum.

PROS

  • High concentrations of hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5
  • Skin feels supple and smooth
  • Non-comedogenic. Does not clog pores
  • Paraben, alcohol, dye, fragrance-free
  • Ideal for all skin types

SkinCeuticals – PHYTO CORRECTIVE MASQUE

I love the texture and the cooling effect of this SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque! This versatile botanical facial mask has multifaceted uses: leave on, rinse off or as an overnight treatment aka water sleeping mask. It has been clinically tested post-procedure to effectively reduce visual redness, discomfort, and heat. So it is particularly soothing to use post procedure – post laser, extractions, photodynamic therapy (PDT), intense pulsed light therapy (IPL), and other in-office procedures.

Also, if you’re skin is easily sensitive especially affect post workout, sun exposure and/or hot bath,chlorine/salt water from swimming, windburn from winter activities than this is for you!

I like to use this calming facial mask 1-2 times a week and often with a thin layer as an overnight mask to restore radiance and smoothness. It also helps to reduce redness!

WHEN: I use this after my serum. Sometimes I also mix in 2 drops of B5 Gel for added hydration.

PROS

  • Reduction in visual redness
  • Cooling effect in skin surface temperature
  • Pure Active Botanicals: Blend of cucumber, thyme and olive extracts
  • Skin feels supple and smooth
  • Non-comedogenic. Does not clog pores
  • Ideal for all skin types

SkinCeuticals – EMOLLIENCE

This moisturizer absorbs into my skin very quickly. Quicker than the B5 Gel and didn’t seem to stay. The Emollience is formulated with sea algae, grape seed oil rose hip seed oil to help hydrate and moisturize parched, dry, sensitive skin however, I find it too gentle for the winter months. Come summer time I certainly would welcome this into my regime.

WHEN: I use this after my serum.

PROS

  • Nourishes and hydrates the skin
  • Restores and maintains skin moisture levels
  • Absorbs quickly and evenly
  • Optimal for high altitudes and cold or dry climates
  • Ideal for dry or sensitive skin types

Overall, I quite like SkinCeuticals products and excited to keep them rotating in my skincare regime.

12 Weeks Pregnant Blood Test HelloNance.com Baby Beauty Travel Lifestyle Vancouver Blog

12 Weeks Pregnant Update: Heading into week 12 of pregnancy stills seems so surreal. And everything seems to be a mad rush. Rushing to get my ultrasound done, blood tests, and NT (Nuchal Translucency) test for Prenatal Genetic Screening. My window to book an appointment and to screen for down syndrome, trisomy 18 and open neural tube defects was down to the 11th hour. I got in at the last minute and basically had to leave work and rush to the clinic. Just before I am 13 weeks pregnant.

The doctor told me there was several ways to test of genetic disorders for my baby:

Blood Test: Regular and Non-Invasive Screening Test (NIPT) is a prenatal tool for pregnant women to screen for Down Syndrome as well as some other chromosomal abnormalities. NIPT test is expensive and costs between $800 and $1500. It is covered in a couple provincial health-care plans.

Nuchal Translucency (NT) Ultrasound: Nuchal translucency is a collection of fluid under the skin at the back of a baby’s neck. This test must be performed between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days of pregnancy. An NT measurement of up to 2mm is normal at about 11 weeks, and up to about 2.8mm by 13 weeks and six days. Results combined with a blood test gives a more accurate result.

Amniocentesis aka (AFT) Amniotic Fluid Test: There is a one in 200 chance of miscarriage of a perfectly normal and healthy baby. This is not a procedure my doctor recommended me nor would I have signed up for. The medical procedure used requires a sample from the amniotic sac surrounding the fetus. The fetal DNA is s examined for genetic abnormalities.

I choose the first two options. I did not want take any risks with AFT.

On a lighter note: Even though we don’t know the sex of our baby just yet. I can’t help but spend hours on Pinterest searching for the perfect nursery decor ideas. I’ve pinned there HERE incase are you doing some research too! I swear this is all for the parents more so than the infant themselves. I mean, all they care about is milk and sleep right?

TATCHA Skincare | Japanese Luxury Geisha Traditions Beauty Line

Tatcha Skincare Japanese Luxury LineGeisha skincare traditions Hello Nance Instanomss Nomss Delicious Food Photography Healthy Recipes Travel Beauty Lifestyle Canada

TATCHA Skincare is a beauty company that is inspired by the ancient Geisha skincare traditions. It is a company based in San Francisco, USA. The beauty line selling points to Geisha beauty secrets, rituals and ultimately flawless skin. I was drawn to all the good things I’ve been reading online and the beautiful packaging. So when Tatcha sent over a beautifully packaged gift box filled with their best selling products I couldn’t wait to try them. I’ve been using these products consistently for three weeks and can’t wait to share my experience with you.

TATCHA Founder Victoria Tsai launched the company with their signature beauty blotting papers, which quickly became a cult favorite among the makeup artist and editorial communities. Then they launched their full skincare line a year later and has been featured in the likes of Vogue, Vanity Fair, O, the Oprah Magazine, and many others.

I liked that TATCHA products are completely free of parabens, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates. All formulas are dermatologist tested, non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

My 30 year old combination normal dry skin is getting more sensitive and requires more TLC and attention. I can no longer use things that are heavy in fragrance or contains a lot of chemical. I have to stick higher end products even tho I am such a skincare junkie.

The packaging on each bottle feels very luxurious. The emblem, the washi paper wrapper and sticker and the gold detailing is on point. The package even came with a handwritten card. I felt appreciated and valued.

Tatcha’s skincare beauty line is developed by Victoria Tsai on her travels to Kyoto, Japan when she encountered a modern day geisha. She immersed herself in the geisha’s world and worked closely with teams of scientists, scholars and geisha themselves to decipher the rituals and ingredients from the sacred beauty text. These time-tested ingredients enhance the skin’s natural beauty, promote nourishment and help reduce the signs of premature aging for truly pure, polished, radiant and supple looking skin.

TATCHA Classic Rice Enzyme Powder $65

This is a gentle exfoliate that can be used daily. The rice powder is a creamy, water-activated enzyme powder effortlessly releases debris from skin. My skin feels soothed, polished and baby soft. Compared to AmorePacific’s Treatment Enzyme Peel, this is even more gentle and creamy. After three week of use (sometimes daily, sometimes 3x week) I have noticed my skin is more radiate. I have less blackheads and my pores of tighter. This rice enzyme powder functions as a 2-in-1 cleanser for those not wearing makeup. Made with pearl, nature’s skin conditioner.

Pro Tip: Soak your hands in warm water and polish your cuticles with rice enzyme powder for soft hands.

TATCHA One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil $48

Oil cleansers are new to my skincare repertoire. I used to belief the only way of being clean is to have squeaky clean skin. I believed that cleansing oils are greasy and would clog my pores. That is not the case. Tatcha’s cleansing oil is a beautiful blend of Camellia and Rice Bran oils. It is a gentle, two-in-one makeup remover and cleanser that melts away even waterproof makeup, leaving behind purified, silky soft skin. It is non-greasy. It is emulsifying completely with no residue. It is perfect for all skin types. After using this for my skin feels more hydrated after washing without that tight skin stretching unpleasant feeling.

This serum is worth every penny of the sticker shock! Glowing. Radiant. Hydrating. My skin is less dry and oily in the T-zone.

It is moisturizing and regulates my skin where it was previously depleted of much need water content. My skin feels firmer and has more bounce. Why is Tatcha’s serum different? It is made with 23-karat gold which lends skin a lit-from-within look, without adding shimmer to the face.

TATCHA Dewy Skin Mist $48

Most mist I’ve tried is refreshing but the sensation quickly dissipates. Tatcha’s luminous dewy skin mist is actually quite moisturizing. I use this after applying my Deep Hydration Serum and Moisture Rich Silk Cream. This mist is a fantastic way to lock in my moisturizers.

The mist is a silky liquid spray on moisturizer of Squalane, Red Algae and our anti-aging HADASEI-3™ Complex. Can be misted for a boost of soothing hydration, resulting in dewy, luminous skin anytime, anywhere. This milky emulsion contains moisturizers and humectants that leave skin rehydrated.

During the day, Tatcha’s dewy mist can be used to refresh bare skin or cosmetics throughout the day, without buildup or residue, instantly softening and smoothing without streaking or disturbing makeup. Does not contain high levels of alcohol and fragrance found in conventional hydrating sprays, which can dry out the skin. Ideal for dry and combination skin.

Pro Tip: Save the empty bottles to put your other spray products in to get a finer even mist application.

What happened after using Tatcha for three weeks? Overall my skin has seen improvements in terms of hydration, firmness and decrease in sensitivities. Areas that are prone to dryness has calmed down and areas usually oily are regulated. I would highly recommend anyone suffering from excitable skin to give Tatcha a try. Afterall, is is made completely free of parabens, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates. All formulas are dermatologist tested, non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

Tatcha can be purchased at high end retailers in the US and around the world, including Barneys, Sephora and Joyce Beauty in Asia.

However, I recommend purchasing Tatcha directly from their website TATCHA Online – Enjoy Three complimentary samples with every order! Complimentary ground shipping on all orders and complimentary shipping on returns.

Shop the new Water Cream at Tatcha.com! This oil-free, anti-aging water cream releases a burst of skin-improving Japanese nutrients, powerful botanicals and optimal hydration for pure, poreless skin.
